My Love of Zombies and Intrigue for Other Horror :)

So since it's October and Halloween is just around the corner I started thinking about some of the horror stuff I enjoy. I make no claim at being a horror buff. I'm far from it, but I've learned to appreciate it. Horror movies and other mediums are the only things I really get a kick out of and tolerate about Halloween. Other than that I don't care much about the holiday. Not to say I don't enjoy the stuff all year round but everyone knows that we get a lot during October. First let me state that two horror genres I don't care for are hauntings and torture stuff. I can't stand it. I like movies with more fantastical themes and villains. None more so than zombies.

So those closest to me know how I enjoy all things zombie related. My dad often refers to me as "zombie girl". I enjoy movies, games, shows, and etc. I can't explain why they fascinate me so much. I think it may have to do with the fact that they terrified me so much and I'm just making up for it now. I still remember clearly as a little girl hiding behind me parents on the couch with my hands covering my ears and peeking as they watched the movies such as Night of the Living Dead and Night of the Creeps.

I don't know what it is about zombie related things that makes me want to see it or learn more about. I really enjoy watching/playing zombie/zombie-like games. The Resident Evil series is by far my favorite zombie series and about the only one I'll actually play through on my own. Left 4 Dead and Telltale's The Walking Dead are two other games I enjoy playing. All the other series such as Dead Rising, Dead Island, Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, Lollipop Chainsaw, are fun for me to watch.

When it comes to movies I like all kinds of zombie movies. I even enjoy the bad ones. Netflix has a great archive of bad ones. Although I do draw the line at Ozombie. I refuse to watch that one. Some of my favorites include: Shaun of the Dead, Romero's Dead collection, and Return of the Living Dead 1 & 2. I could go on and on.

As for TV, The Walking Dead is a favorite for sure. I absolutely love the fact that there is a TV show with zombies that I can enjoy every week. And this season definitely started off very strong. One of few things I enjoy at work is the day after a new Walking Dead episode and discussing it with the Grounds Manager and Supervisor who love the show as much as I do. We can go on and on analyzing the hell out of the show. It's pretty enjoyable. It's like our very own Talking Dead, which happens to be the after show for TWD. I enjoy everything Walking Dead related. The comics are very good. I haven't jumped on the bandwagon for American Horror story yet, but I am considering checking it out at some point.

Overall I enjoys many facets of horror. I can't say I can watch all things horror with no issues. I'm still a chicken at heart. I've recently got over my fear of Freddy Krueger and can now enjoy all the Nightmare on Elm Streets films. Not the remake. That sucked. Other iconic films such as Friday the 13th and Halloween series I sort of enjoy now but haven't fully been able to watch them. I hope to get over that some day. Won't stop me from reading up all about them. I do that for all horror films I can't bring myself to watch. I still like learning about them.

The same thing with video games. While I may not bring myself to play them myself, I don love finding walkthroughs for the horror games I'm interested in and watch those on YouTube. My favorites include Dead Space, Outlast, Silent Hill, and others I find through Bloody Disgusting. I am eagerly awaiting gameplay for The Evil Within and Alien: Isolation. Those look like it will be fun to watch and a bit scary.

I can't explain my weird affinity for horror things yet still be too much of a chicken to watch most of them. I guess it's just an odd quirk of mine. It's just something I enjoy. There are so many other horror type things I enjoy, but those are just a few of them.
